CHANDIGARH: On the verge of winding up the work of identifying heritage stock and making an inventory, Chandigarh Heritage Inventory Committee has not been getting support from the Punjab and Haryana high court to visit the premises due to security reasons. Now, the committee has decided to write to the registrar general of high court to seek fresh permission to identify the stock lying there.
A senior architect from the UT urban planning department and a key member of heritage inventory committee said, ‘‘Barring a few departments in Panjab University and high court, we have visited all other government departments and educational institutes and have identified the heritage material lying at their end.
But, the Punjab and Haryana high court authorities have still not allowed us to visit the the premises to complete our work.’’
The heritage inventory member revealed that now they would be writing to the registrar general of the high court again, with a request to allow them to visit the premises and take the inventory. ‘‘The registrar general has asked us to send him a letter clearly mentioning the details of their upcoming visit to the court. We would soon be sending them the letter,’’ said the official.
However, the three-member heritage inventory committee is busy compiling a comprehensive report of all the collected heritage stock from across the city. ‘‘We have identified the heritage material according to our capacity and knowledge. Now, the same would be handed over to the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee which would verify these recovered items originality,’’ said the committee member.
